1995-1997
Larry Page and Sergey Brin meet at Stanford and in 1996, they began collaborating on a search engine called BackRub which operated on Stanford Servers for more than a year but it took too much bandwidth, so was not efficient.
1998
Google.com gets registered on September 15. With Google, Larry and Sergey's mission was to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. In 1998, Google Friends Newsletter was launched to inform fans about the company news.In the same year, Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim writes a check for $100,000 to an entity called Google Inc. which didn't even exist till then.
In August, they incorporated the iconic man to Google's Logo which started the trend of Doodle.Now currently more than 1000 doodles are present and have been displayed on Google's hompage.In December, a computer magazine recognies Google and reports its power to return "Extremely Relevant Search Results" and Google bags a position in the Top 100 websites for 1998.
1999
Google outgrow's their Garage office and move to 165 University Avenue in Palo Alto with just Eight Employees. The first press release announces a $25 million round from Sequio Capital and Kleiner Perkins. They again move to their mountain view location in Bayshore.
2000
Google announces Mental Plex on 1st April: It confirmed Google's Ability to read your mind as you visualize the search you want and from here, bega the tradition of April 1 hoaxes. Google also win the first Webby Awards for Technical Achievement and People's Voice and thereby implementing a series of doodles and 15 different language versions of Google Search. This was the launch year of Google Adwords and Google Toolbar.
Till now, Google was just a Search Engine which was tremendously gaining popularity and respect from people from all across the Globe. But with the beginning of a new millennium, Google started a new era it started acquiring other companies and thus gaining access to most of the services of the Internet.
2001
In their first public acquisition, they acquire Deja.com's Usenet discussion, an archive of over 500 million users and add it as Google groups. Eric Schmidt is named chairmen of the board of directors and Google Image is launched with initially offering access to about 250 million images. Google opens their first international office at Tokyo, Japan. It was in this year when Google started "Zeitgeist", a recapitulation of the year gone by.
2002
This was one of the most constructive year for Google as it launched majority of its services in this year.Cost-per-Click pricing is introduced which changes the face of the Internet and the first set of Google APIs are released which allow developers to query more than 2 billion (yes 2000000000!!!) web documents in their favorite Environment including Java,Perl and Visual Studio. Google Labs was introduced which let people try out beta technology which was the proving ground for many Google features such as Google transit, Google Scholar, Google Trends.Google News and Google Shopping is also launched making day-to-day life of everyone easier.
2003
Google acquires Pyra Labs, the creators of Blogger which today has more than 300 million page views every month.They also acquired Applied Semantics and hence created AdSense, a content targeted advertising service.They provide $10,000 per month in in-kind Adwords to promote their initiatives.Google Code Jam attracts tens of thousands of contestants each year and this was the launch year for Google Print, indexing small excerpts from book to appear in search results making the search results more effective and precise.
2004
This was one of the most important year in the history of the company, as of this year the company goes Public with 19,605,052 shares of Class A Common Stock on Wall Street. "Orkut" was started which very quickly became very popular throughout the world and Googleplex becomes the new Head Quarters of Google with 800+ employees. In the month of April, Gmail was also introduced which today hosts mora than 425 million user accounts. The Company acquires Picasa to help users organize their pictures. Keyhole is acquired which is used in Google Maps and earth Services and Google.org has been established to make the world a better place.
2005
Google Map goes live and after few months, satellite view and directions are also added to it.Google Mobile Search was introduced with other services like Google Talk, Google earth, Google Analytics. Google Transit and Gmail for Mobile have also rollled down in 2005.
2006
Google Launches Google Finance with interactive charts and figures to help people find Financial information more easily. To keep track our events, Google calender is Launched and Google Trends is also introduces to visualize a popularity of searches over time. Google Checkouts and Google Wallet are also announced which made Online payment easier.
This was the year when "Google" became a verb and a synonym for Search in Oxford Dictionary and acquires "YOUTUBE".
2007
Google is announced "The Best Company to Work For" by "Fortune".Traffic Information is been added to Google maps. GOOG-411 is introduced which enabled people to dial a phone number and speak a search for local information so by this, Google brought search to the people anytime they wanted and anywhere they wanted.Google Street View debuts in Google Maps in 5 U.S. cities.Google Safe browsing is introduced to help to keep people away from malicious content on the Internet.
In this year, Android is also announced, the first open platform for mobile devices and searching becomes quicker in mobiles.
2008-2009
Google Chrome is also made available for download for FREE. First mobile on Android is built by T-Mobile and Google Suggest (now called Autocomplete) arrives on Google.com, helping formulate queries and reducing keystrokes and spelling errors. Voice Search on Android is launched and Google Voice is released to improve the way you use your phone. A Venture Capital Fund, Google Venture is announced.Turn by turn PS navigation is introduced in Google Maps and Google Chrome OS is rolled out, just in time for the holidays.
2010
Nexus One is introduced to show the power of Android. Google Crisis Response team was formulated to respond to natural calamities and global disasters.Google TV is built on Android and Chrome and gives you an easy and fast way to navigate to television channels, websites, apps, shows and movies.Google's first playable doodle is introduced in celebration of PAC-MAN's 30th Birthday. AdMob, a mobile display advertising company is purchased. Google Instant is introduced so that you can get the results as you type .
Driverless Cars development was in progress. Youtube introduces TrueView so that the advertisers gets the right kind of audience.
Now, Android rules the mobile world and Google rules the Internet as it provides all the services necessary for any individual to work-play-enjoy. It is like a complete and compact package of services.In today's world, nobody can even think to live in a world without Google.
